Michael McGee

Michael McGee fell in love with teaching, learning, and leadership as a student born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee and educated in public schools. He is a proud alumnus of Vanderbilt University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Human and Organizational Development, and the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where he holds a Master of Education in Education Policy and Management. Currently in his fourth year serving as the pre-kindergarten through fourth grade school leader at KIPP Ernest N. “Dutch” Morial Primary School in New Orleans, Michael has previously held teaching and leadership roles for KIPP New Orleans Schools and KIPP Texas-Dallas-Fort Worth. This summer, he is relocating with his wife to Washington, D.C., where he is the incoming principal of KIPP DC Heights Academy. Michael is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, an alumni of Teach For America and the Relay Graduate School of Education National Principals Academy Fellowship, and a member of the National Fellowship of Black and Latino Male Educators. A seasoned educator and skilled instructional leader, Michael McGee approaches his work with deep insight into the high-leverage strategies that work for kids and the ability to align talent and strategy to meet the most pressing challenges facing schools today. In his spare time, Michael enjoys traveling, learning and cooking new recipes, and hosting friends and family!
